Conference and Great Website
I recently went to a seminar called, “What’s New in Children’s Literature” and it was amazing! The speaker was nationally recognized children’s book expert Judy Freeman (she has been on Newbury and Caldecott committees). I took away so many wonderful ideas and started making my book “wish list” that was pages long. We have already used some of her choices in class. Third grade read, The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak and they will be creating their own in the next class.
I am going to try and add a new feature to my website where I share a new book choice from her list, (or other great new books) so that everyone can share in the magic. I am also going to try to update my site to show a little more insight into our classroom. All feedback is welcome!
One last thing I wanted to share is a wonderful website that I learned about at the conference. A local Howard county librarian, Barb Langridge, hosts a site called, www.abookandahug.com . It is an awesome site. She has a section that helps you identify what kind of reader you might be and what book choices you might like. She has author interviews and so much more!!! I hope to use her site to start a school-wide children’s book list review (more to come on this).
Have a warm last bit of winter! Don’t forget that curling up with a good book and a mug of hot cocoa is the perfect thing to do after a day of sledding!
